Atlanta Falcons -2.5 at the Barstool Sportsbook
The Atlanta Falcons (4-5, 6-3 ATS) have been one of the league’s most surprising teams thus far, currently sitting at 4-5 overall around the midway point of the season. The Falcons enter tonight’s game tied with the struggling Tampa Bay Buccaneers for first place in the NFC South, and will look to distance themselves from both Tampa and the rest of the pack, which includes the lowly 2-7 Carolina Panthers.
These two teams did face off less than two weeks ago on October 30th, with Atlanta edging out the Panthers in an absolute thriller of a game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, 37-34. QB Marcus Mariota coughed up two interceptions while completing 20 of his 28 passes en route to an improbable win. RB Caleb Huntley handled most of the work on the ground as he rushed for 91 yards on 16 carries (5.7 YPC), but saw his workload diminish in last week’s loss to the LA Chargers following the return of lead back Cordarrelle Patterson.
Carolina did match up fairly well against Atlanta during their epic Week 8 clash, and should find themselves in an even better position tonight as the Falcons have struggled when playing away from home in 2022. Atlanta is 3-2 at home this season but just 1-3 on the road, with the team’s lone road win coming back in Week 3 against the Seattle Seahawks. Furthermore, Atlanta will be without superstar CB AJ Terrell, who is set to miss tonight’s game due to a hamstring injury.
Carolina Panthers +2.5 with the Barstool Sportsbook
The Carolina Panthers (2-7, 3-6 ATS) have seemingly improved since the team decided to move on from ex-HC Matt Rhule just four games ago. Since taking over as the head man in Charlotte, interim HC Steve Wilks has led Carolina to a 1-3 overall record, which doesn’t look very pretty on paper, but also isn’t as atrocious as it may seem. Carolina has had to play three road games against the Los Angeles Rams, Atlanta, and the Cincinnati Bengals since Wilks took over the reigns. Aside from last week’s beatdown in Cincy, the team has remained fairly competitive.
During their lone home game under Wilks, Carolina shocked the football world as they absolutely dismantled Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 7, winning 21-3 as 13-point underdogs. As briefly mentioned above, the Panthers have been a much better team at home at 2-3 overall in 2022, while they remain winless on the road at 0-4. Aside from a 37-15 rout at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers, Carolina has been in every single home contest thus far.
Carolina does have some injury concerns heading into tonight’s game, as CB Donte Jackson, RB Chuba Hubbard, DT Matt Ioannidis, and OT Taylor Moton are all listed as questionable. On the bright side for the Panthers, DE Brian Burns was listed as a full participant at Wednesday’s practice following a neck injury suffered in last week’s loss at Cincinnati. Carolina’s leading pass-rusher is good to go for Thursday Night Football.
