Kansas State Wildcats -5.5
We have a treat for CBB diehards and Big 12 enthusiasts at 7:00 PM when the surprising Wildcats of Kansas State host the surging Oklahoma State Cowboys.
In head coach Jerome Tangβs inaugural season, the Wildcats have been arguably the biggest surprise in all of college basketball. After losing star Nigel Pack to Miami, Tang has been able to reload and have the Wildcats competing for a Big 12 regular season title in Year 1.
The Wildcats have managed to pick up wins against LSU and Nebraska in non-conference play, while winning their first three conference games, all against ranked opponents (West Virginia, @ Texas, and @ Baylor). In the most recent AP poll, Kansas State finds itself right on the fringe of the top ten at number 11.
Tang comes from Big 12 counterpart Baylor, where he was a longtime assistant under Scott Drew. Like Drew, Tang likes to deploy an uptempo offense that maximizes the number of possessions in a basketball game. Coming into tonight, Kansas State is 82nd in adjusted tempo via KenPom.
Kansas State will look for their 4th straight win to open up conference play and 9th straight overall to continue their surprising start to the 2022-2023 season.
Oklahoma State Cowboys +5.5
The Pokes head into this one with a 9-6 record and are just 1-2 in conference play. But donβt let their record fool you; their underlying metrics are encouraging. Oklahoma State comes into this one ranking 29th in KenPomβs adjusted efficiency metric, just two spots behind the aforementioned Kansas State.
Under head coach Mike Boynton, Oklahoma State has always been a force on defense, and this season is no different. The Pokes have had some encouraging moments, but they are still looking for their first true marquee win of the season, and tonight presents a golden opportunity.Β
The Pokes had a 15-point halftime lead at Allen Fieldhouse that was squandered in a 2-point loss to Kansas – additionally, they lost a tight one at home to the Longhorns this past Saturday.
The Octagon of Doom is a tough venue for any Big 12 opponent to win in – but itβs safe to assume a sense of desperation from the Pokes, who are trying to build a resume for their second appearance in March in six years.

- Tip-off: 9:00 pm ET
- TV Coverage: ESPN2
- Location: Allen Fieldhouse, Lawrence, Kansas
- Participants: Oklahoma Sooners (10-5, 1-2) at No. 2 Kansas Jayhawks (14-1, 3-0)
- BetMGM Sportsbook Odds: Kansas -10.5, O/U 132
Kansas Jayhawks -10.5
The defending national champions will host the pesky Oklahoma Sooners in our second Big 12 matchup of the night.
The Kansas Jayhawks own one of the most impressive resumes to date, helping explain their lofty number-two national ranking in the most recent AP poll. The Jayhawks have picked up wins against Duke, Wisconsin, Seton Hall, Indiana, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech, all potential teams in this yearβs NCAA Tournament field. Their lone loss has come against the fifth-ranked Tennessee Volunteers.
Jalen Wilson leads the way for Kansas, averaging 20.2 points per game. But it isnβt all Wilson – his supporting cast has been spectacular in the early part of the season. Freshman Gradey Dick is averaging nearly 15 points per game while shooting at a ridiculous clip of 48% from 3-point range.
Oklahoma will undoubtedly have their hands full, as Kansas ranks 8th in KenPomβs adjusted offensive efficiency metric.
Oklahoma Sooners +10.5
Oklahoma is riding high off the best win of its season, winning at Texas Tech this past Saturday in overtime. The Sooners have had a handful of close losses against Texas, Iowa State, and Arkansas.
They were finally able to put it together with their first win over a ranked opponent this past weekend. They will try to replicate that effort tonight on the road. On the offensive end, itβs all about Grant Sherfield. Sherfield, a Nevada transfer, is averaging a team-high 16.9 points per game.
The Sooners will need a full team effort if they want to fulfill this upset – head coach Porter Moser will be counting on the Groves brothers, Tanner and Jacob, while also leaning on Jalen Hill for some extra ammunition on offense.
The Sooners can keep this one close because of their unconventional slow pace – according to KenPom, Oklahoma plays at the 345th (out of 363) fastest tempo in the nation.
If the Sooners can get out ahead to start, their slow tempo is a great way to quickly preserve a lead and frustrate an opponent.
