Oklahoma at TCU Game Details
- Date: Tuesday, January 24, 2023
- Tip-off: 8:00 pm ET
- TV Channel: BIG12 | ESPN+
- Location: Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena, Fort Worth, Texas
- Participants: Oklahoma Sooners (11-8) vs. No. 11 TCU Horned Frogs (15-4)
- BetMGM Sportsbook Odds: TCU -6.5, O/U 137.5
TCU will play host to a pesky Oklahoma team for the first of two matchups this year. Oklahoma is coming off a devastating two-point loss at home to a dominant Baylor Bears team this past Saturday. TCU is coming off a massive 23-point win at Allen Fieldhouse as seven-point underdogs.
These teams are in different stages at this point in Big 12 play. TCU is trying to inch closer towards the top of the standings as they chase Kansas State, who lies in first. On the other hand, Oklahoma is 8th in the conference and needs any win they can get to bolster their resume for an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament.Β
As of last Friday, January 20, ESPN bracketology expert Joe Lunardi had Oklahoma as the last team into the field playing as a 12-seed in Daytonβs First Four, while TCU is currently slotted as a five-seed.
If Oklahoma wants to pull off the upset, they will lean on Nevada transfer Grant Sherfield, averaging 17 points per game. According to KenPom, head coach Porter Moser deploys the 325th fastest adjusted tempo in Division I (out of 363 teams).
The Sooners will undoubtedly have their hands full against one of the nationβs top backcourts. Mike Miles Jr., Emanuel Miller, and Damion Baugh have been sensational in TCUβs surprise ascension so far this season – they will look to continue that on their home floor this Tuesday night.
Kansas State at Iowa State Game Details
- Date: Tuesday, January 24, 2023
- Tip-off: 9:00 pm ET
- TV Channel: ESPNU
- Location: James H. Hilton Coliseum, Ames, Iowa
- Participants: No. 5 Kansas State Wildcats (17-2) vs. No. 12 Iowa State Cyclones (14-4)
- BetMGM Sportsbook Odds: Iowa State -5.5, O/U 133.5
Now, this should be a fun one. Two of the top three teams in the Big 12 standings are set to square off in Ames tonight on ESPNU.
Kansas State and Iowa State have both been two of the fastest risers in the country. Both are led by relatively new coaches – TJ Otzelberger in his second year at Ames while Jerome Tang has made a remarkable turnaround in his first year in Manhattan.
Each of these teams boasts two of the best resumes in the country. The Cyclones have lost two of their last three, but theyβve defeated Texas, TCU, Baylor, and North Carolina for a well-rounded profile. Conversely, Kansas State has run through the Big 12βs best, beating Kansas, Texas, Baylor, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State to catapult themselves into the top five.
Markquis Nowell and Keyontae Johnson lead Kansas State. They have provided plenty of firepower for this Wildcats squad. Still, they will undoubtedly have their work cut out against KenPomβs seventh-most efficient defense that leads the nation in generating turnovers.
Oklahoma State at Texas Game Details
- Date: Tuesday, January 24, 2023
- Tip-off: 9:00 pm ET
- TV Channel: LHN
- Location: Moody Center, Austin, Texas
- Participants: Oklahoma State Cowboys (11-8) vs. No. 10 Texas Longhorns (16-3)
- BetMGM Sportsbook Odds: Texas -7.5, O/U 134.5
To round out the night, we head to Austin, Texas, where the Longhorns will host the Cowboys of Oklahoma State.
Texas rounds out the top three as they are tied for second place in the Big 12, standing at 5-2 in conference play. Texas has won four of their last five, including a win over the Pokes on their home floor a little more than two weeks ago. The Cowboys are coming off their biggest win of the season, defeating Iowa State 61-59.
Despite their recent two-game streak, be on the lookout for the statuses of Bryce Thompson and big man Moussa Cisse. Thompson, Oklahoma Stateβs leading scorer, only logged nine minutes against the Cyclones after injuring his ankle. His status is up in the air. In addition, Moussa Cisse returned in that Iowa State contest but only played 15 minutes. Weβll see if coach Mike Boynton will build upon Cisseβs workload in tonightβs matchup.
For the Longhorns, they will lean on point guard Marcus Carr, who is averaging 17.4 points per game and 4.2 assists. Texas established itself as one of the countryβs best offenses in nonconference play; however, the Big 12 is a different animal. Theyβve been unable to reach 80 points in five straight contests. We wouldnβt count on them breaking that streak tonight – Oklahoma State arguably has the leagueβs best defense. They are ranked as KenPomβs 8th most efficient defense in Division I.
