Commanders -1 at BetMGM
The Washington Commanders and HC Ron Rivera are facing some serious scrutiny following the team’s abysmal 1-4 start to begin the 2022 campaign. After a pair of toothless efforts against divisional rivals in the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys, Washington returned home in Week 5 and suffered a crushing loss to the Tennessee Titans on what was essentially the final play of the game.
Following Ron Rivera’s postgame press conference basically airing out quarterback Carson Wentz and throwing him under the bus in front of the national media, it’s hard to imagine Washington salvaging this seemingly lost season at this point. However if there was ever any chance to do so, tonight’s game against the Chicago Bears is the perfect opportunity.
Washington’s defense hasn’t been atrocious by any means (345.6 yards allowed per game, T-18th) but has been susceptible to giving up big points (25.6 points allowed per game, 26th). The good news for the Commanders? They’ll have the pleasure of facing off against one of the league’s worst offenses in Chicago on Thursday night, which currently ranks second-to-last in yards per game (274), dead last in passing yards per game (116.6), and 28th in points scored per game with just 17.2.
The BetMGM Sportsbook mobile app is available for bettors in Washington D.C., however you must be within a two-block radius of Nationals Park in order to successfully place any legal wagers with the site.
Bears +1 with BetMGM Sportsbook
The Chicago Bears and first-year HC Matt Eberflus haven’t enjoyed the prettiest start to their 2-3 season, however a win on Thursday night could find Chicago back at .500 through six weeks. Following a pair of back-to-back tough road losses against the Giants and Vikings, Chicago will return to Solider Field where they are undefeated on the season at 2-0. In fact, it’s been a tale of two different teams when playing home versus away for the Bears in 2022.
In Chicago’s three road games thus far, they’ve been torched on the defensive end. Minnesota put up 29 points last week while stifling the Bears’ comeback attempt, the Giants hit them for 20 points in MetLife Stadium after posting 16 and 19 the two games prior, and Green Bay took their anger out on the Bears with a 27 spot at Lambeau Field in Week 2.
When playing at Solider Field this season, Chicago has limited its competition to 15 points per game. The Bears are also holding opposing rushers to 4.4 yards per attempt as opposed to 5.2 on the road. Opposing quarterbacks have had it even worse, completing just 55% of their passes for an average of 6.8 yards per attempt. On the road, these numbers jump to 73.5% and 7.7 yards per attempt. The Bears have allowed just one touchdown pass at home to go along with three interceptions, holding opposing quarterbacks to a combined QB Rating of just 61. Now facing a Commanders offense that has posted a bleak 11.6 points per game over its last three contests, this game presents a very favorable situation for Chicago.
