Jacksonville Jaguars +2 at BetMGM Sportsbook
Doug Pederson’s Jacksonville Jaguars (6-8, 6-8 ATS) have found new life as of late, winning three of their last four contests to jump back into the AFC playoff conversation. It hasn’t been the easiest path either, as the Jaguars managed to take down a trio of quality postseason contenders in the Baltimore Ravens, Tennessee Titans, and Dallas Cowboys during their recent hot stretch.
Jacksonville will now head into MetLife Stadium for what should be a thrilling Thursday night battle between the top-2 overall picks selected in the 2021 NFL Draft. Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence went No. 1 overall out of Clemson, while New York was forced to run with BYU’s Zach Wilson in the No. 2 slot. As of late, the two young gunslingers have headed down completely different paths.
Over his last five games, Lawrence has completed 68.7% of his passes for 1,445 yards, 13 touchdowns and just one interception to pull Jacksonville back into the race. Wilson, on the other hand, is only getting the start tonight in place of the injured Mike White, who stole Wilson’s starting job after a string of extremely poor play and leadership skills put on display by the second-year quarterback.
Speaking of No. 1 overall picks, Jacksonville announced it will be without its top selection from the 2022 NFL Draft tonight, as LB Travon Walker is sidelined with an ankle injury. Additionally, the Jaguars will also be missing a key piece within their offensive line, as LT Cam Robinson suffered a season-ending meniscus injury during the fourth quarter of last week’s 40-34 overtime win over Dallas.
New York Jets -2 with BetMGM
The tides have turned rather quickly for Robert Saleh’s New York Jets (7-7, 8-6 ATS), who have dropped to .500 on the season and find themselves on the outside looking in for the playoffs after a strong 7-4 start. New York will enter Thursday Night Football currently on a three-game losing streak, having last won during Week 12 at home against the Chicago Bears.
Tonight’s game will serve as a rematch from last season, as Jacksonville traveled to East Rutherford during Week 16 of the 2021-22 campaign with a record of 2-12 and fell to the 3-11 Jets, 26-21. Zach Wilson played one of his better games during his rookie season that night, ripping off a 52-yard touchdown run to finish with 91 total yards on the ground on just four carries to go along with a passing touchdown and zero interceptions. Wilson will need to put on a similar performance on the ground if New York wants to walk away victorious on TNF, as heavy rain and wind is expected at MetLife.
As far as injuries are concerned, New York could be without DT Quinnen Williams, who is listed as questionable with a calf injury. Williams was a full participant in New York’s Wednesday practice which is a good sign for Jets backers, but this one is definitely an injury to monitor as we get closer to kickoff. RB Bam Knight is also questionable with an ankle injury, while WR Denzel Mims has been ruled out with a concussion.
