The U.S. mixed in deft passing and a strong offensive attack with bouts of inconsistency in the defensive third on Monday in a 1-1 tie against Wales.
Such defensive spells will not be tolerated by coach Gregg Berhalter in Friday’s highly anticipated showdown against England in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. With a solid showing against the Group B favorites, the U.S. could put itself in position to advance to the knockout stage ahead of Tuesday’s group stage finale versus Iran. But knocking off England, one of the favorites to capture the World Cup, will be a tall task.
For new mobile sportsbook customers in Maryland, BetMGM is offering a sign-up bonus coinciding with Friday’s critical Group B match. Open a new account in Maryland and win instantly if any team scores a goal in the England-U.S. matchup. The attractive bonus offer rewards customers with $200 on a $10 bet if either team scores.
Bet $10, win $200 if either team scores a goal
Maryland officially went live with online sports wagering on Wednesday, one day before Thanksgiving. Earlier in November, the Maryland Sports Wagering Application Review Commission issued mobile sports betting licenses to 10 operators, including BetMGM.
In order to claim your bonus, complete the following steps:
- Register for a brand new account using the BetMGM bonus code HANDLEWC.
- Fund your account with an initial deposit of $10 or more.
- Place a pre-game moneyline wager on any team participating in the 2022 World Cup.
That is all! If the U.S. takes a surprise early lead, you will win. By the same token, if England is the team to score the opening goal of the match, you will also collect. Free bets will be awarded to all eligible accounts within 24 hours of bet settlement. If you record a victory with the offer, BetMGM will not pay out the winnings in a lump sum. Instead, the sportsbook will divvy the winnings into four separate payments of $50 each.
There is one key stipulation: When you make a bet with a free wager, BetMGM requires that it is made in full. In other words, a free wager with $100 of bet credits cannot be divided into four bets of $25. Also, keep in mind that BetMGM will only pay out the winnings with wagers made with free bet credits. Unlike bets placed with real money, free bet payouts do not include the amount staked by a bettor.
In addition, free wager offers at BetMGM expire within a week. The offer encourages you to make the wagers as soon as possible.

England fans let out a collective sigh of relief when scans of Harry Kane’s injured ankle turned out negative. Kane, England’s star forward, injured his ankle in the team’s 6-2 win over Iran on Monday, but took part in England’s practice session on Wednesday.
At BetMGM, there are odds of +280 on Kane to net the first goal of the match, with odds of +110 on an anytime goal. Against Iran, Bukayo Saka led England with two goals, while Jude Bellingham, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Radford, and Jack Grealish added one goal each. There are odds of +500 on Saka to score the opening goal of the match, as well as odds of +200 for an anytime goal.
The U.S., meanwhile, will be decided underdogs for the first time in the 2022 World Cup. The Americans took a 1-0 lead on a first-half goal by Tim Weah on Monday, but surrendered it when Gareth Bale scored on a second-half penalty kick. There are odds of +400 on Weah to net his second goal of the World Cup at any point of Friday’s match against England.

U.S. star forward Christian Pulisic could net his first career World Cup goal on Friday in Qatar. Pulisic had a number of opportunities to score against Wales and found Weah on a nifty assist for the team’s only goal. Pulisic has odds of +350 for an anytime goal vs. England. He is the U.S. co-favorite on the anytime goal scorer market, along with Gio Reyna, a talented midfielder who was not used by Berhalter against Wales.
Futures markets
Besides single-game wagers on Friday’s critical Group B match, there are also numerous wagers available on both squads on the futures market. The U.S. has odds of -125 to advance into the knockout stage. Wales, the third choice, is close behind at +120. When the U.S. wraps up group play against Iran on Tuesday, Wales will play its final group match when it takes on England. The matches will be held simultaneously.
Ahead of Friday’s slate, England has odds of -650 at BetMGM to win Group B. The U.S. is the second choice at +700, followed by Wales and Iran, at +850 and +12500, respectively.
England (+650) is also the co-second choice with France to win the 2022 World Cup. Brazil, a five-time World Cup champion, is the heavy favorite at +300. The U.S. remains a considerable longshot at 100/1.
