Auburn Tigers -5 with BetMGM Sportsbook
It’s hard to believe, but Bruce Pearl is in the midst of his ninth season as the Tigers’ head man.
It took some time for Pearl to lay down the foundation, but on the Tigers’ current trajectory, they are on pace to appear in their 4th NCAA tournament in the last six seasons. Auburn appeared in zero tournaments between 2002 and 2017.
Under Pearl, Auburn deploys one of the more entertaining brands of basketball with solid guard play, a fast tempo, and a ruthless defense that turns their opponents over often. To start this season, Auburn has built up a strong resume. They’ve tallied up wins over Northwestern, Saint Louis, Colgate, Florida, and Arkansas.
Guard Wendell Green Jr. leads the way for Auburn and was integral in Auburn’s NCAA Tournament appearance last season that landed the Tigers a two-seed. However, their season ended earlier than expected when Miami upset them in the Round of 32. Green and co. have been out for revenge this season. With a win tonight, they’ll be on the heels of Alabama and Texas A&M for the SEC lead.
Tonight will be a tough test against a hungry LSU team that’s coming off an embarrassing loss. LSU hasn’t been as strong in SEC play as in non-conference play, but they have the talent to hang around.
LSU Tigers +5 at BetMGM
The LSU Tigers looked like one of college basketball’s big surprises when they started with a remarkable 12-1 record, including wins over Wake Forest and in-conference foe Arkansas. But they’ve dropped four straight, and they hit rock bottom this past Saturday when they fell at Alabama, 106-66.
But the Tigers have been a problem at home. They are 9-1 at Pete Maravich Assembly Center and can pick up another impressive win for their resume tonight. Leading the way are two transfers: KJ Williams and Adam Miller.
Williams played under new head coach Matt McMahon at Murray State and is a 6’10” forward with the shooting capabilities of a guard. Miller, an Illinois transfer, was a high recruit out of high school and has flourished under McMahon. This duo will need to play at a high level if they want to pull off the upset in tonight’s matchup.
