After an eventful two days filled with NFL postseason excitement, we will officially wrap up Wild Card Weekend tonight with a rare edition of playoff Monday Night Football. This one will pit the 8-9 NFC South Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers against the 12-5 Dallas Cowboys in a rematch of one of the regular season’s earliest contests.

Cowboys at Buccaneers Wild Card Playoff info + preview

  • Date: Monday, January 16, 2023
  • Start Time: 8:15pm ET
  • TV Channel: ABC/ESPN
  • Location: Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, Florida
  • Participants: Dallas Cowboys (12-5) vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-9)
  • BetMGM Sportsbook Odds: Cowboys -2.5 (-145), O/U 45.5

The National Football League might have decided to save the best for last, as this postseason edition of Monday Night Football has all the makings of a modern classic. Tonight’s game is set for 8:15pm ET at Raymond James Stadium and features the 12-5 Dallas Cowboys traveling to Tampa to take on Tom Brady and the 8-9 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The biggest storyline heading into this one is the obvious: Tom Brady is the most successful quarterback to ever play the game and the Dallas Cowboys have essentially become notorious playoff-chokers since the turn of the 21st century. In addition to both sides’ consistent postseason results over the last 20 years or so, Brady has outright dominated Dallas throughout his prolific NFL career, boasting a flawless 7-0 lifetime record against the Cowboys.

This matchup also presents a rematch from all the way back in Week 1, when Tampa Bay went into Jerry World and smothered Dallas’ offense to walk away with a firm 19-3 victory. Of course, Dak Prescott famously suffered a thumb injury in that game and was forced to miss the following few weeks before returning in Week 7 and leading Dallas to a 7-3 finish over their final 10 contests.

Despite the staggering difference in overall records, Dallas is only listed as a short 2.5-point favorite on the road over Tampa Bay at BetMGM Sportsbook. After falling to the San Francisco 49ers at home in the Wild Card Round last season, the pressure is certainly palpable for HC Mike McCarthy and company as they prepare to take on the most proven postseason winner the NFL has ever seen.
