The Divisional Round of the 2022 NFL postseason will begin this afternoon with an intriguing matchup out of the AFC between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Kansas City Chiefs. Following one of the craziest comebacks in playoff history, the Cinderella Jaguars will attempt to return to the AFC Championship Game for the first time since 2017 with a monumental upset over KC.
These two sides already met back in Week 10 of the 2022 campaign when the 6-2 Chiefs handily defeated the lowly 3-6 Jaguars at Arrowhead Stadium, 27-17. Kansas City jumped out to an early 20-0 lead thanks to a trio of touchdown passes from Patrick Mahomes to Kadarius Toney, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Noah Gray, however Jacksonville managed to stop the bleeding by finishing the game on a 17-7 run. A postseason afterthought at the time, the Jaguars ended up winning 6 of their final 7 games to impressively end the season at 9-8 overall and steal a playoff spot from the division rival Tennessee Titans.
Kansas City has also flourished since that meeting, going on to win 7 of 8 to finish the regular season at 14-3 overall, which is tied with the 2020 Chiefs for the most wins in franchise history. The Chiefs will carry a five-game winning streak into this afternoon’s playoff game in hopes of extending it to six and returning to the AFC Championship Game after falling to Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals last season, 27-24.
