Looking to make up lost time and ground as part of the second wave of mobile sports betting operators to launch in the state of New York, BetMGM is ready to hit the ground running on Monday.

BetMGM, which announced Friday that it was approved by the New York State Gaming Commission and will begin accepting wagers Monday, was part of the “super bid” that was approved in November that included FanDuel, DraftKings, and Bally’s. The former two were approved to begin accepting bets Jan. 8, which was done with much fanfare, while Bally’s is still waiting for the commission to give the OK.

With only nine operators conducting business in the state, BetMGM will have an opportunity to overcome the disadvantage of not being among the first movers, and will use its sign-up bonuses and promotional offers to get attention. Sources informΒ Sports Handle that the initial new-user promotion will include a $1,000 “risk-free” first bet.

BetMGM’s New York connections

BetMGM was not affiliated with any of the four retail casinos north of New York City conducting sports wagering, which was the impetus for joining one of the “super bids” submitted to the state gaming commission. But make no mistake, BetMGM is one of the key books on the national sports betting scene, conducting business in 15 states overall, with mobile wagering in 12 of them.

To make its presence in New York known, BetMGM signed a multiyear partnership deal with Madison Square Garden to be the official sports betting partner of the New York Knicks, the New York Rangers, and the “World’s Most Famous Arena.” That deal will undoubtedly include special betting offers and promotions involving both teams, but BetMGM also gets some prime signage in one of the busiest crosswalks in Manhattan near the Penn Station subway stop. That constant display will help offset the delay in launching behind some of its peers.

BetMGM has a robust offering of wagering markets, from the traditional professional U.S. sports to niche international markets including darts, Rugby Union, and Formula 1. BetMGM is also offering the popular “same game parlay” in which bettors can make multiple wagers from a single game and bundle them together at increased odds.

BetMGM’s app also has a “Parlay Card” option in which bettors can choose to load different games for parlay purposes for speed and convenience. It also offers “Parlay Insurance” in which bettors can recover their stake if one leg fails to deliver while all the others do.

One area where BetMGM excels is offering a wide range of alternative lines for bettors to consider if they want something beyond the main offerings. Additionally, they tend to be distinctive when it comes to futures wagering when lined up against other sportsbooks.
