The nation’s top-ranked team at the moment will look to avoid its second loss in as many games as the No. 1 Purdue Boilermakers head into Value City Arena tonight to challenge the No. 24 Ohio State Buckeyes.
HC Matt Painter’s squad was sitting at a perfect 13-0 on the season before Monday’s 65-64 home loss to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Following the upset, Purdue now finds itself listed as a short 1.5-point underdog in a tough road game at No. 24 Ohio State. Purdue will look to keep its 2-1 conference record above .500 with a win tonight in Columbus before heading into Happy Valley to take on a dangerous 11-4 Penn State unit in its next game. The Boilermakers have played one true road game in Big Ten play thus far, escaping in overtime against the Nebraska Cornhuskers on December 10 with a final score of 65-62.
As far as Ohio State goes, HC Chris Holtmann’s Buckeyes are back in the Top 25 following a statement 73-57 road win at Northwestern on Sunday night to advance to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Buckeyes enter tonight’s game riding a three-game winning streak and have won five of six dating back to the beginning of December. A win tonight would likely propel Ohio State into the AP Poll’s Top 15 teams, but also put the Buckeyes in a firm position atop of the Big Ten standings at 3-0 as we enter the thick of conference play.
