As TCU fans gear up for a nerve-racking week of waiting for the College Football National Championship, they can turn their attention to the basketball court this Wednesday night when they square off with in-state rival Baylor.
This game has the makings of a Big 12 classic. These teams both feature excellent guard play and play at a fast pace, which should make for some entertaining basketball. Letβs dive into the matchup.
No. 17 TCU Horned Frogs +6
These are two teams currently headed in different directions. TCU is currently on a 10-game winning streak. Their lone loss came in bizarre fashion as Northwestern State beat them by one nearly two months ago, but since then, TCU has beaten the likes of Iowa, Providence, Utah, and Texas Tech to bolster their resume for March.
TCU has several key contributors back from a team that took one-seeded Arizona down to the wire in the Round of 32 in last yearβs NCAA Tournament. Mike Miles will lead the way – Miles has established himself as not only one of the best guards in the Big 12 but one of the best in America.
Emanuel Miller and Damion Baugh complement Miles to form one of the best backcourts in the Big 12 – with an upset here, it would be TCUβs best win on their resume.
No. 19 Baylor Bears -6
While TCU is surging, Baylor is coming off a brutal 77-62 defeat on New Yearβs Eve against Iowa State to open up Big 12 play.Β
The Bears should be getting a boost for tonightβs game, with LJ Cryer returning to the lineup after a two-game absence from a concussion. Cryer, Adam Flagler, and freshman Keyonte George put Baylor among the few teams that can match the firepower the Horned Frogs have in the backcourt.
While Baylor doesnβt boast the same record as TCU, theyβre ranked higher because their best wins are much more impressive. In non-conference play, Baylor was able to muster up wins against UCLA and Gonzaga.
