College football bowl season continues tonight with an extra-special rendition of the San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl, featuring two high-flying offenses led by big-name signal-callers. It’ll be none other than Bo Nix and the No. 15-ranked Oregon Ducks doing battle with Drake Maye and the North Carolina Tar Heels at Petco Park in San Diego, California.

Although this eye-popping matchup is still unavailable to wager on in the state of Ohio, things are about to change as the Buckeye State is set to unveil its brand-new digital wagering market on January 1, 2023. Before the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve, new Caesars Sportsbook players based in Ohio can jump on a special pre-registration welcome bonus courtesy of The Emperor.

Pre-register with Caesars Sportsbook Ohio using the promo code HANDLENEWSTIX before December 31 and make an initial $20+ deposit before launch day and you will take home $100 in bet credits within 7 days of Caesars’ launch in Ohio.

San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl game info

  • Start Time: 8:00pm ET
  • TV Channel: FOX
  • Location: Petco Park, San Diego, California
  • Participants: No. 15 Oregon Ducks (9-3) vs North Carolina Tar Heels (9-4)

North Carolina Tar Heels +13 at Caesars

The North Carolina Tar Heels (9-4, 5-7-1 ATS) will enter tonight’s Holiday Bowl looking to snap the team’s ongoing three-game losing streak that included both a loss to Clemson in the ACC Championship and a headscratching upset at home as a 21-point favorite over lowly Georgia Tech.

The Tar Heels will also look to avoid a three-game losing streak in bowl games at the 2022 Holiday Bowl after falling short in last year’s Duke’s Mayo Bowl against South Carolina and losing the 2020 Orange Bowl against Texas A&M. HC Mack Brown has been up to the task since returning to his old stomping grounds ahead of the 2019 season, leading UNC to four bowls in four attempts, but is probably in search of results similar to Carolina’s 55-13 demolishment of the Temple Owls in the 2019 Military Bowl.

Despite finishing the season at 9-4 overall along with an ACC Championship appearance to show for it, the Tar Heels come into the Holiday Bowl as a hefty 13-point underdog at Caesars Sportsbook. This is largely due to the amount of opt-outs on North Carolina’s roster, including leading WR Josh Downs and a trio of key playmakers in the secondary in Tony Grimes, Storm Duck, and Cam’Ron Kelly.

No. 15 Oregon Ducks -13 with Caesars Sportsbook

The No. 15 Oregon Ducks (9-3, 8-4 ATS) will also stumble into the 2022 Holiday Bowl after losing two of their previous three contests to end the season. Oregon’s most recent loss particularly stung, as the team blew a 31-10 lead late in the third quarter on the road against the rival Oregon State Beavers.

Although the regular season ended on a bit of a sour note, HC Dan Lanning’s first season in Eugene was ultimately a success. Lanning guided the Ducks to a 9-3 overall record while clocking in at 7-2 in conference play. Prior to dropping that pair of close losses to Washington and Oregon State in the season’s final weeks, the Ducks had a legitimate shot to get to the Pac-12 Championship Game against USC. Not a bad start for Lanning, who will attempt to guide the Ducks to their first bowl victory since the 2019 Rose Bowl under Mario Cristobal.

Oregon is listed as a massive 13-point favorite over North Carolina in this one, but don’t be fooled by the line. Similar to the Tar Heels, Oregon is dealing with its fair share of opt-outs ahead of this one. On top of offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham bolting for the head coaching job at Arizona State, the Ducks will also be without LB DJ Johnson, LB Justin Flowe, LB Noah Sewell, WR Dont’e Thornton, and First Team All-Pac-12 CB Christian Gonzalez in tonight’s Holiday Bowl.
