Mahomes Eyeing History

On Thursday night, February 9, Patrick Mahomes became the 10th player in NFL history to win multiple MVPs.Β

However, Mahomes will be looking to halt an interesting trend that has held up since 1999. In that time span, nine MVP quarterbacks have appeared in the Super Bowl, and every one of them has been on the losing end. Kurt Warner was the last player to accomplish both in the same season. With a win, Patrick Mahomes would become the third quarterback to win two Super Bowls in his first five seasons, the other two being Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger.

Mahomes has been on a historic tear since he first stepped on the field in 2018 and won the MVP in his inaugural season as a starter. This year was no different – he lost All-Pro receiver Tyreek Hill to revamp the offense, and Mahomes turned in his best season since 2018.

Mahomes will look to finish the job against a ferocious Eagles’ defense that turned in the third most sacks recorded in NFL regular season history.

Eagles With Highest Postseason Point Differential Since 1989 49ers

Many have questioned the Eagles’ road to the Super Bowl. But it’s tough to question the fashion they did it in.

The Eagles played the Giants and 49ers in their two postseason games – it wasn’t necessarily as difficult a path as Kansas City. But the way Philly beat down each opponent was very impressive. Philadelphia defeated those opponents by a combined score of 69-14.Β

The Eagles have won with dominant offensive line play that can control the time of possession with elite playmakers at quarterback and on the outside, coupled with a defense littered with talent and depth.Β

However, the Eagles have yet to face a quarterback near the caliber of Mahomes or a team as dynamic as Kansas City altogether.Β

A decisive win here would add another feather to Philly’s cap of a historic run.

Nick Sirianni Versus Former Employer Andy Reid

A lot has been made of Andy Reid going up against the team he started his head coaching career.

However, not much has been made of Nick Sirianni going up against his former boss, Andy Reid. Nick Sirianni broke into the NFL in 2009 on the Chiefs’ staff under Todd Haley. Sirianni worked his way up as a quality control assistant to a wide receivers coach in 2012.Β

But once Andy Reid was hired in 2013, Andy decided to look elsewhere rather than retain Sirianni. There is no ill will between these coaches, but it is undoubtedly a fun, full-circle narrative a decade later.
