Can the Suns Find Any Scoring Without Booker?
The Suns are 2-7 without their superstar shooting guard and have lost 11 of their last 15 overall to shoot down in the Western Conference standings. Even without Chris Paul for an extended period in November, the Suns seemed right on schedule as the Western Conference’s top seed through the middle of December.
But ever since their recent skid took place, the Suns are holding on for dear life as the eighth seed at 20-18. And the last game might’ve been rock bottom: Phoenix mustered up just 11 points in the first quarter and 83 points total in their loss to the New York Knicks on Monday afternoon, both season-lows.
The Suns will be without Booker for at least another three weeks as he tries to recover from his groin injury. The Suns need to find consistent production from Mikal Bridges, Chris Paul, and Deandre Ayton if they want to get out of this rut.
How Will Mitchell Respond After 71-Point Outing?
Donovan Mitchell’s 71-point performance was one of the most impressive of the entire NBA season to date. Not only was it the highest point total in the league since Kobe Bryant scored 81 points in January 2006, but Mitchell’s efficiency was unprecedented. Mitchell was 22 of 34 from the field and 20 of 25 from the free throw line, generating some video game numbers.
On top of all that, Mitchell still managed to facilitate at a high level with 11 assists. Mitchell will have his work cut out for him tonight against future Hall-of-Famer Chris Paul. Although Paul is 37 years old, he’s still one of the league’s best floor generals, averaging 8.7 assists per game.
Can the Cavaliers Continue to Climb the Eastern Conference Standings?
After winning two straight tight games against the Chicago Bulls, the Cavaliers continue to slowly climb up the Eastern Conference standings.
Even though Cleveland was one of the NBA’s big surprises last season, the 2021-22 season ended in disappointment when they lost in the NBA play-in tournament. But with the addition of Donovan Mitchell and the development of young key pieces like Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley, Cleveland seems to be taking a step forward as one of the Eastern Conference’s contenders for the first time since LeBron James left for Los Angeles.
Coming into tonight’s game, the Cavs stand at 24-14 as the four-seed in the east. But they are just two games back of the Boston Celtics, the east’s one-seed. Cleveland has to like their chances tonight, as they’ve been one of the NBA’s best home teams at 17-4 on the year.
