Thursday Night Football: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Cleveland Browns

  • FanDuel Sportsbook TNF Odds: Browns -4.5
  • Over/Under on FanDuel Sportsbook: 37.5 points
  • Time: 8:20 ET
  • Channel: Prime Video

To kick off week three, we’ll get a highly-contested matchup between two of the nastiest teams in the league.

The Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers play that AFC North brand of football that NFL fans have grown to adore: smashmouth, violent, and defensive-minded.

Even though it is early in the season, this game may prove crucial down the stretch. Going into tonight, each team is 1-1 and in a tie for 1st place with the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North standings.

This series has gone back and forth in recent years, with the Steelers sweeping the Browns last season and the Browns sweeping Pittsburgh the year before.

Betting on the Browns

Deshaun Watson will be serving the third game of his 11-game suspension – so the Browns will be rolling with backup QB Jacoby Brissett. Brissett has been surprisingly solid, posting a 70.2% completion percentage, good for 11th in the NFL. On FanDuel Sportsbook, you can bet on plenty of props for the journeymen quarterback: over/under 181.5 yards, 1.5 TDs, and 17.5 completions.

But the big story here for the Brownies’ offense is their ground game led by Nick Chubb, who has unsurprisingly looked like one of the league’s best runners through two weeks. Chubb has been a staple of this offense since he was drafted in 2018. Through two weeks, Chubb is second in the NFL in rushing with 228 yards. His rushing prop is set at 84.5 rushing yards.

Don’t forget about his counterpart Kareem Hunt. Hunt has proved to be a valuable addition to this offense since he arrived in 2019. The combination of Chubb and Hunt forms one of the league’s most lethal backfields. If you expect a big night from Cleveland’s pass-catching back, you can snag the over on Kareem Hunt’s combined rushing/receiving total at 60.5 yards.

From 2019-2021 the duo of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt has been one of the most dangerous RB tandems in the NFL

While Chubb has 408 more carries in that time period, both backs see the same defenses.

Pittsburgh’s Prospects

On the other side, the Pittsburgh offense has left much to be desired through two weeks. The Steelers’ offense ranks 30th in yards per game. During the offseason, the Steelers signed Mitch Trubisky to be the team’s starter for the 2022 season. But if he’s unable to perform better than he has in his first two weeks, Steelers fandom may be seeing 2022 1st rounder Kenny Pickett sooner rather than later.

Although the quarterback issues are real, the weaponry in Pittsburgh is plentiful. Diontae Johnson, Chase Claypool, and Pat Friermuth have all had their moments in the early going. In addition, Pittsburgh has yet to involve 2022 2nd rounder George Pickens much in the passing game, but he is another weapon.

Going into tonight, Johnson has the highest receiving prop for both teams at 56.5 yards.
