Phillies at Braves
- Date: Wednesday, October 12th, 2022
- Start Time: 4:35 pm ET
- TV Channel: FOX
- Location: Truist Park, Atlanta, Georgia
- Participants: Philadelphia Phillies vs. Atlanta Braves
- Pitchers: Zack Wheeler vs. Kyle Wright
- FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: Atlanta (-138), O/U 7.5
On the first day of the divisional series, the only upset was in game one of the slate when the Phillies defeated the Braves, 7-6.
The Phillies were in command for most of the game, but a 3-run shot from Matt Olson in the bottom of the 9th made it very nerve-racking for Phillies fans. But they managed to hold on and flip the home-field advantage. The Braves series odds were hovering anywhere from -170 to -190 before game one – now the Braves are the underdog to advance at +130 odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
And they will have a tall task in front, going up against Philadelphia ace Zack Wheeler in today’s duel.
Atlanta Braves Preview
The Atlanta Braves turned in one of their best seasons in franchise history, winning 101 games. This was the third most in their franchiseβs history, and most since 1998 when they won 106 games with some elite bats like Andruw and Chippers Jones and one of the greatest pitching staffs ever in Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, and John Smoltz.
The 2022 team is full of promise, littered with young talent everywhere. And now most of it is secure.
Few teams have cores as good as Atlanta. No team is close to so locking up its core.
Austin Riley through 2033
Michael Harris II, 2032
Matt Olson, 2030
Spencer Strider, 2029
Ronald AcuΓ±a Jr., 2028
Vaughn Grissom, 2028
Ozzie Albies, 2027
William Contreras, 2027
Kyle Wright, 2026— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) October 10, 2022
After extending NL Rookie of the Year favorite Spencer Strider this week, the Braves have arguably the best infrastructure set up for the future in the entire Major League.
And Atlanta will be counting on one of those key cogs to even up the series this afternoon. Kyle Wright is scheduled to start today – the 27-year-old is coming off a career year where he led the National League in wins with 21. He became the first Braves pitcher to win 20+ games since Russ Ortiz in 2003.
Wright isnβt an overpowering pitcher like Strider, but he has excellent command, control, and batters rarely make solid contact off the righty.Β
At FanDuel Sportsbook, there are several Kyle Wright markets you can use your No Sweat First Bet on. You can bet his over/under in strikeouts at 4.5 (over 4.5 at +106 odds). In addition, you can use FanDuelβs Same Game Parlay feature to bet on Wrightβs strikeouts combined with the Braves’ moneyline for some juicy odds.
For the Braves bats, they left a staggering 19 men on base in yesterdayβs defeat. Base runners were certainly not the issue, but more timely hits can lead to tying up the series this afternoon. If you think the Braves can carry some of that 9th-inning momentum into today, you can wager on Matt Olson to hit a home run at +440 odds.Β
In addition, you can bet on any Bravesβ player recording an RBI – from Austin Riley (+145 odds) to Orlando Arcia (+230 odds), FanDuel has you covered.
Philadelphia Phillies Preview
On the other side, the Phillies are playing with house money as the underdog. Coming into this series, the Phillies’ odds to advance hovered around +160. But after their monumental game-one win, their odds on FanDuel have skyrocketed to -152.
The Phillies will rely on their horse, Zack Wheeler, to get a 2-0 lead heading to Philly. Wheeler has had success against the Braves – in three starts in 2022, Wheeler was 2-0 with 25 strikeouts, only allowing six runs in 20 innings of work. Wheelerβs strikeout prop is set at 5.5 with plus odds on the over.
Over the last few weeks, the Philliesβ bats have been a little streaky, but yesterday they came alive with 12 hits, including three each from superstar Bryce Harper and offseason acquisition Nick Castellanos. If you like each of them to record a hit in todayβs contest, you can parlay it on Fanduel at +126 odds.
On FanDuel, the sheer number of markets and bet types you can wager is unlike any other sportsbook. If you like the Phillies to win another tight one, you can bet the Phillies to win by 1-3 runs at +200 odds.
Padres at Dodgers
- Date: Wednesday, October 12th, 2022
- Start Time: 8:37 pm ET
- TV Channel: FS1
- Location: Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California
- Participants: San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
- Pitchers: Yu Darvish vs. Clayton Kershaw
- FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: Los Angeles (-188), O/U 7
The Dodgers escaped game one with a 5-3 victory. After building a 5-0 lead, the Padres slowly inched back to make things interesting, but it wasnβt enough as they took game one behind 17-game winner Julio Urias.
The Dodgers dominated the Padres in the regular season, winning 14 of their 19 matchups and outscoring them 109 to 47. The Dodgers are a heavy favorite to come out of the NL at -110 odds after posting a ridiculous 111 wins in the regular season, 4th most in MLB history.
If the Padres can manage to steal game two (+164 on the moneyline), it would go a long way toward pulling off the miraculous divisional round upset.
Los Angeles Dodgers Preview
The Padres will have their work cut out for them as they face off against arguably this generationβs greatest pitcher, Clayton Kershaw.
But despite his immaculate career, with three Cy Youngs, an MVP, and a career sub-2.50 ERA, his playoff struggles are well-documented.
In 37 career appearances in the postseason, Kershaw is 13-12 with a 4.19 ERA. However, the last time he appeared in the postseason was the 2020 bubble season when he helped the Dodgers win their first title since 1988. Kershaw put those criticisms to rest with a 4-1 record with a 2.93 ERA and a ridiculous 0.91 WHIP.
Kershawβs strikeout prop is set at 4.5 with -166 odds on FanDuel Sportsbook to go over.
The prize of the upcoming 2023 free agency class may be Dodgers superstar Trea Turner. Turner was the hero in last nightβs contest, going 2 for 4 with a solo home run in the 1st inning that got the party started. If you like Turner to replicate that effort in tonightβs battle, you can bet on Turner to hit another home run at +360 odds.
The Dodgers are full of future Hall-of-Famers and All-Stars. Unsurprisingly, theyβre the odds-on favorite to hoist the World Series Trophy. But on FanDuel, you can still get them at solid odds at +200 to win it all.
San Diego Padres Preview
If the Padres were to pick any pitcher to roll with and get a victory over LA in a must-win scenario, it might be Yu Darvish.
In ten career appearances against the Dodgers, Darvish has a 2.47 ERA with 82 strikeouts. After coming off one of his worst years as a Major Leaguer in 2021, Darvish has rebounded and looked back to his usual self, recording a 16-8 record with a 3.10 ERA with a 0.95 WHIP, good for 4th in the MLB.
Before his start in the wild-card round against New York, Darvish had recorded at least six strikeouts in nine straight starts. You can bet on Darvish to record 6+ strikeouts at a juicy +116 odds for tonightβs game.
Although the Dodgers seemingly have had the Padres’ number, San Diego has plenty of star power to counter with. You can bet on superstars Juan Soto, and Manny Machado to record an RBI on FanDuel at +170Β andΒ +155Β odds in tonight’s matchup, respectively.
