Memphis Tigers -7.5 at FanDuel Sportsbook
Under current Florida State head coach Mike Norvell, Memphis was known for its high-flying, balanced offenses with efficient quarterbacks such as Paxton Lynch and Brady White and stud running back play from the likes of NFL guys including Tony Pollard, Darrell Henderson, and Kenny Gainwell.
It has been more of the same under current head coach Ryan Silverfield. Coming into this one, Memphis has scored 28+ in six of their last seven games.
Quarterback Seth Henigan leads the way as he’s thrown for 3,287 passing yards with a 19-8 TD-INT ratio on the year. Memphis has a potent rushing attack led by Jeyvon Ducker and Asa Martin.
However, it’s fair to question the validity of the Tigers’ wins. Among the Tigers’ six wins, only one was against a bowl opponent, the North Texas Mean Green. Each of Memphis’ six losses have come against bowl teams.
If Memphis can create some turnovers, it’ll be easier for them to cover this lofty spread. On the year, Memphis’ defense has struggled, but they have been able to turn some offenses over. Quindell Johnson leads the way with a team-high four interceptions.
Utah State Aggies +7.5 with FanDuel
Many believed the Aggies would be without star running back Calvin Tyler Jr., the team’s leading rusher, as an opt-out casualty, but Tyler Jr. recently announced he is playing in today’s game.
The Aggies are coming off a Mountain West title in 2021 but have seemingly regressed under second-year head coach Blake Anderson. The Aggies had high hopes coming into the year but surprisingly started 1-4. Quarterback Logan Bonner was injured early in the year and the team has since shifted gears towards Cooper Legas, who has shown promise in Bonner’s absence, going 5-2 down the stretch to become bowl-eligible.
If Utah State wants to pull off the upset, Legas will need to turn in one of the best starts of his young career.
