Seattle Seahawks +3.5 with FanDuel Sportsbook
After the Seahawks’ surprising 6-3 start, Seattle has gone on to lose three of their last four, failing to cover in each game. Geno Smith has continued to light up the stat sheet as he is the heavy odds-on favorite to hoist the Comeback Player of the Year award.
It has been Seattle’s defense that has regressed in a significant way. Seattle is coming off a brutal performance, allowing 224 yards on the ground on nearly five yards per carry against the Panthers. The Seahawksβ front will face an even more challenging task on a short week against one of the best rushing offenses in the league in San Francisco.
But this may be a prime spot for Seattle to bounce back. Seattle is in desperate need of a win. This is a must-win if they want to stay alive in the NFC West. And with a loss, they may be in serious jeopardy of losing out on a wild card berth. Pete Carroll has had a lot of success against Kyle Shanahan, going 10-3 in his career against the offensive guru.
San Francisco 49ers -3.5 at FanDuel
According to FootballOutsiders, the 49ers are rated as the number one team by Weighted DVOA – and for good reason. Since the acquisition of Christian McCaffrey, the 49ers have been an absolute buzzsaw. After stumbling to the Chiefs in his first game, the 9ers have reeled off six straight by an average margin of 18 points per game.
Mr. Irrelevant, Brock Purdy was listed as questionable heading into this one as he nurses an oblique and rib injury but is expected to play for the 49ers. Purdy has been a spark plug for the San Fran offense in the brief action he’s played. However, things may be more difficult for the rookie tonight. Lumen Field presents one of the more hostile road environments in the league – compound that with no Deebo Samuel, and this could be a really tough test for the rookie.
On the other side of the ball, the 49ersβ defense is establishing themselves as an elite unit. The 49ers have allowed just eight points per game in their last three games, including a shutout. Nick Bosa has the second shortest odds to win the Defensive Player of the Year award, just behind Micah Parsons. Bosa, Fred Warner, and Talanoa Hufanga have all been elite playmakers to lead this 49ers’ defense.
