Eastern Michigan Eagles vs. San Jose State Spartans

  • Date: Tuesday, December 20, 2022
  • Start Time: 3:30pm ET
  • Channel: ESPN
  • Location: Albertsons Stadium, Boise, Idaho
  • Participants: Eastern Michigan Eagles (8-4) vs. San Jose State (7-4)
  • FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: San Jose State -4.5, O/U 53.5

Eastern Michigan +4.5 at FanDuel

Eastern Michigan is considered one of the most challenging jobs in college football. They’ve had just ten winning seasons in their program’s history – but four have come since 2014 when head coach Chris Creighton assumed head coaching duties. Today, they can make history with a program-record nine wins.

Creighton is also looking to snap his losing skid in bowl games. Creighton is 0-4 in bowl games at EMU. But Creighton has thrived in his role as an underdog this season. The Eagles are 6-1 ATS as underdogs, winning five straight up. In addition, the Eagles have been spectacular in one-score games, going 5-1.

Since Creighton took over, they’ve had some success with NFL talent, most notably Maxx Crosby. But there are no opt-outs for the Eagles before today’s showdown.

San Jose State -4.5 with FanDuel Sportsbook

The Spartans travel from California to Boise, where it’ll be hovering around 30 degrees before kickoff, which will be much different than the climate they are used to in Cali.

The Spartans finished third in the western division of the Mountain West, going 5-3 in the conference. Quarterback Chevan Cordeiro will lead the way in today’s matchup – Cordeiro threw 20 touchdowns to just four interceptions. However, three of those INTs came in the last month of the year, where they lost two games decisively. One of the keys to victory for the Spartans will be if they can take care of the football against a leaky but opportunistic Eagles defense.

This will be head coach Brent Brennan’s second bowl game since he arrived in 2017.

For as hot as EMU was down the stretch, you could say the polar opposite for San Jose State. The Spartans lost two of their last three and even struggled in their wins. San Jose State is coming into this one having lost their previous six against the spread.
