Update (Wednesday, Nov. 23): Mobile sportsbook operators were given the go-ahead by the Maryland Lottery to launch at 9 a.m. ET. Seven operators are expected to launch Wednesday, and many of them are offering special promotions to Maryland users. Follow along with our live blog.
Update (Tuesday, Nov. 22): Mobile sportsbook operators in Maryland completed eight-hour controlled demonstrations on Monday from 2-10 p.m. ET. Completing that step moves Marylanders one step closer to the full mobile sports betting launch in the state. Sportsbooks will be offline Tuesday as the Maryland Lottery audits their Monday performance. On Wednesday at 9 a.m. ET, mobile sportsbooks will be allowed to launch in the state without any restrictions.
When digital sports betting goes live in Maryland for an eight-hour demonstration period Monday and then fully live on Wednesday, consumers will have seven platforms to choose from and a host of promotional offers totaling more than $4,000 in “risk-free” bet opportunities. Barstool Sportsbook, BetMGM, and Caesars Sportsbook are each offering $1,000 or more back in first-bet losses.
Two years and two weeks after voters said yes to sports betting, consumers will be able to log on to their mobile devices and bet on this weekend’s slate of NFL games, which includes the Baltimore Ravens visiting the Jacksonville Jaguars and the suddenly interesting Washington Commanders — who handed the Philadelphia Eagles their first loss two weeks ago — hosting the Atlanta Falcons.
The Sports Wagering Application Review Commission approved 10 operators for launch on Nov. 16, but representatives from Betfred, betPARX, and Fanatics said their platforms won’t launch until 2023.
The launch process could be confusing to consumers. The Maryland Lottery will allow mobile sportsbooks to go live from 2-10 p.m. Monday, but then the platforms will go dark for an audit period, before going “fully” live at a time to be determined on Wednesday. The means that while bettors will be able to wager on the outcome of the Monday Night Football game, live betting will cut off near halftime.
Bettors likely can’t place pre-match wagers on the U.S. opening World Cup game against Wales, which is set for 2 p.m. Monday. They will be able to live bet the match, however.
Most operators have plans to make their launch specials available at 2 p.m. Monday during the demonstration period. Between 10:01 p.m. Monday and “full launch” on Wednesday at a time to be announced by the Maryland Lottery, consumers won’t be able to bet, but they may be able to sign up on platforms. Most pre-launch promotions will be void as of 2 p.m. ET Monday.
Sports Handle will have a live blog Wednesday with all of the latest information as platforms go live, and in the meantime, here’s a look at each what each operator will be offering.
Barstool Sportsbook
Mobile launch: Wednesday, time TBD
Promos and specials: After its pre-launch offer expired Sunday night, beginning at 2 p.m. Monday Barstool Sportsbook will offer new customers $1,000 in bonus cash if their first wager loses, as well as a giveaway in which new customers get $100 in bonus cash for placing a wager of $1 or more.
Retail partner: Hollywood Casino in Perryville, which went live with its retail operation in December 2021 and also has a Barstool Sportsbook restaurant.
Elsewhere in the DMV: Barstool Sportsbook’s mobile app is operational in Virginia. The operator doesn’t have a presence in Washington, D.C.
What they’re saying: “We already enjoy a solid retail presence in Maryland and engage with a large base of fans through our property as well as Barstool Sports and theScore’s powerful digital content offerings,” said head of Penn Interactive Benjie Levy. “We now look forward to introducing our integrated media and sports betting experience and serving the state’s passionate fans with a best-in-class, technology-driven online product. The timing could not be better to debut Barstool Sportsbook with the World Cup getting underway and as we’re in the midst of a busy sports calendar.”
BetMGM
Mobile launch: Wednesday, time TBD
Promos and specials: All new Maryland customers depositing at least $10 will be offered first-bet insurance up to $1,000 if the first bet is a loser. Retail partner: BetMGM is partnered with MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill. The retail sportsbook at MGM National Harbor went live in December 2021.
Elsewhere in the DMV: BetMGM’s mobile platform is available in Virginia, and the sportsbook has a retail location in Washington, D.C., at Nationals Park. The mobile app can be used in D.C. within a two-block radius of Nats Park.
BetRivers
Mobile launch: Wednesday, time TBD
Promos and specials: New customers can get up to $500 back on a losing first bet with BetRivers’ second-chance bet offer.
Retail partner: BetRivers is partnered with Bingo World, which launched its retail operation on Aug. 1, 2022.
Elsewhere in the DMV: BetRivers’ mobile sports betting platform is available in Virginia. The operator doesn’t have a presence in D.C.
What they’re saying: “The much-anticipated launch of online and mobile sports betting in Maryland is here, and just in time for all the NFL and college football action over Thanksgiving,” Richard Schwartz, chief executive officer of RSI, said in a press release. “We are thrilled to give Maryland’s NFL and college football fans an exciting sports betting experience to enjoy all the holiday action at the touch of their fingertips.”
Caesars Sportsbook

What they’re saying: “The Caesars Sportsbook app is ready to bring the great sports fans of Maryland the elevated sports wagering experience they’ve anticipated,” Eric Hession, president of Caesars Digital, said in a statement. “Following the necessary regulatory approvals and testing period, Nov. 23 will mark an exciting launch that builds on our legacy in the state.”
DraftKings
Mobile launch: Wednesday, time TBD
Promos and specials: DraftKings currently has a pre-launch offer of $200 worth of free bets for new customers. DraftKings’ pre-launch offer is live until Wednesday’s launch. To participate, new users can opt into the promotion and then receive eight $25 free bets. The free bet credits are valid for seven days from date of issue.
Any customers who register for the free-bet promotion will be automatically entered in a drawing for a $100,000 free bet. Five $100,000 bets will be issued, and customers who win can’t place a wager with the free bet on anything with odds longer than +300.
Retail partner: DraftKings is expected to launch a retail sportsbook at the Maryland State Fairgrounds, although the retail operation has yet to launch. It received initial approval from the lottery in August.
Elsewhere in the DMV: DraftKings is live in Virginia, but the well-known operator doesn’t have a presence in D.C.
What they’re saying: “We applaud the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency and the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission for their hard work on bringing mobile sports betting to Maryland,” Griffin Finan, DraftKings’ senior vice president, deputy general counsel, told Sports Handle. “DraftKings is excited for the opportunity to introduce Maryland sports fans to our No. 1 preferred mobile sportsbook product.”

Mobile launch: Wednesday, time TBD
Promos and specials: FanDuel’s platform has been available since 5 a.m. Monday for customers to “browse” and sign up, though wagering will not begin until 2 p.m. At that time, the company will be offering $200 in free bets for new customers who place a $5 bet.

Elsewhere in the DMV: FanDuel is live in Virginia, and the operator has a retail sportsbook at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. While the D.C. retail location is small, it gives fans an up-close view of the field, something other D.C. sportsbooks don’t offer.
What they’re saying: “We have been looking forward to this for a long time.,” Karol Corcoran, FanDuel’s GM for online sportsbook, told SportsHandle in a statement. “Our fantastic retail property in Maryland, with our great partners Cordish, has been incredibly popular with the people of Maryland and gives us a lot of confidence our app will be too. One of the reasons we have been so popular in all of our online states is that we strive to make it super easy to sign up, and we’re also the home of the SAME GAME PARLAY which is an incredibly fun way to bet!”
PointsBet
Mobile launch: Wednesday, time TBD
Promos and specials: PointsBet is offering $200 free on deposit that will be paid out in four $50 credits that expire one week after being credited. Customers signing up through Better Collective properties, including Sports Handle, US Bets, or Action Network, will also be credited an additional five $100 risk-free first bets.
