Same-game parlays have been all the rage in traditional sports betting, so why shouldn’t they catch fire in the esports realm? That’s the wager Toronto-based sports betting company Rivalry is making with Wednesday’s introduction of a same-game parlay product for esports in the Canadian province of Ontario and other legal international jurisdictions.
Rivalry is calling its SGP product “Same Game Combos,” where bettors can build multi-leg tickets for a single League of Legends, Counter-Strike, or Dota 2 match. The company provided Sports Handle with a short video demonstration of how Same Game Combos are constructed on its platform.
“Finding success among Millennial and Gen Z customers means being first to introduce new sports wagering experiences at the edge of technical and product innovation where this audience lives,” Steven Salz, Rivalry’s co-founder and CEO, said in a press release. “Same Game Combos brings one of the most popular bets on the board to an audience of deeply engaged esports fans while extending Rivalry’s position at the vanguard of betting entertainment.”
‘Building for an under-30 demographic’
In announcing its Same Game Combo markets, Rivalry noted that over 90% of its 2022 sportsbook handle came from esports betting. The company views the new parlay bets as a path to “improved player acquisition and hold,” as multi-leg wagers have been a boon to mobile sportsbooks‘ margins in the traditional sports betting space.
Rivalry’s Same Game Combos will also feature custom branding and animation, with an eye toward creating “a proprietary sports wagering experience,” according to the release.
“It’s important to add depth to our products and more options for our users,” said David King, Rivalry’s director of product design. “We are building for an under-30 demographic that have high expectations for the entertainment products they consume. Delivering on that level of entertainment, while creating a meaningful user experience, adds material value to the Rivalry platform.”
