We’re taking one play off from the currently frenetic pace of sports betting legislation to kick off a new series about sports betting. If you read the headline, you already know what it is: The Best Sports Betting Scenes in Television and Movies.
There’s a lot of high-quality movies centered on gambling, including on horse racing and poker (“Let It Ride” and “Rounders”). All quality gambling scenes, whether strictly sports betting or not, the focus of the film or a minor aside, will be included/considered. By the end of this series we’re going to unearth clips from “Casablanca” and “The Odd Couple.” And because “The Simpsons” has a scene if not a prediction for everything until the end of time, we’ll check in with Springfield.
For the start of this roughly 20-part series (maybe more if you send in some quality suggestions, more on that below), we couldn’t think of a better place to start than the 1980 classic “Caddyshack.” In this clip, we see the Bushwood Country Club caddies betting not on golf but whether Judge Smails’ kid Spaulding would… pick his nose. And then they double down.
