On Wednesday night on CBS Sports Radio, SportsHandle editor-in-chief Brett Smiley joined the great Jody McDonald to discuss the latest in the Supreme Court Sports Betting case (Christie v NCAA) and why the NFL actually wants to lose the case. At least that’s the argument Smiley spelled out recently.
McDonald was understandably skeptical as Smiley argued that the NFL has a lot to gain and little to lose if they take an “L” in the case. That doesn’t mean the attorneys representing the NFL and leagues are “tanking” the case — quite the contrary — but simply bringing the anti-sports betting “integrity of the game” argument to its conclusion and perhaps its final resting place in Washington D.C.
